Construction work on the new passenger terminal at the Philippines’ Caticlan Airport has begun. The project’s groundbreaking ceremony took place on 14 July 2025, led by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
This new Php2.5-billion terminal is being developed by San Miguel Corp. (SMC) through its subsidiary Trans Aire Development Holdings Corp., in partnership with the Department of Transportation (DOTr). The contractor for the project is Megawide Construction Corp.
Targeted for completion in December 2026, the terminal will span a total floor area of 36,470.15 sq m – comprising a 34,758.45 sq m main terminal and a 1,711.70 sq m support building. It is designed with modern facilities to ensure efficient passenger flow, comfort and safety. These include enhanced check-in counters, security screening areas, baggage handling systems and improved boarding gates.
Caticlan Airport, the main gateway to tourist hotspot Boracay, is the fourth busiest airport in the Philippines, handling over three million passengers in 2024 alone, said DOTr. When completed, the new terminal will be able to accommodate up to seven million passengers annually.
“Through this project, Boracay will strengthen its position as a premier destination while boosting the tourism economy and improving travel comfort for both domestic and international passengers,” said DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon.
