The joint operation of PT Hutama Karya Infrastruktur (HKI), PT Acset Indonusa Tbk (Acset) and PT Nindya Karya (NK) (KSO HKI-ACSET-NK) has completed the construction of Probolinggo–Banyuwangi Toll Road Package II in East Java, Indonesia. This new 11.2-km section connects Kraksaan and Paiton, reducing travel time to just 10–15 minutes compared to the previous 30 minutes via the national road.
Aditya Novendra Jaya, director of operations III at HKI, highlighted the project’s role in strengthening regional mobility. “This toll road will significantly improve connectivity in East Java. As part of the project, we have also completed a toll gate in Paiton for entry and exit access, along with an operational building to support daily management.”
Aligned with environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles, the consortium incorporated eco-friendly design into the operational building. “We applied wide glass openings to maximise natural light and reduce electricity consumption, ensuring sustainability is embedded in our infrastructure,” shared Mr Jaya.
According to PT Hutama Karya (Persero), the parent company of HKI, the project has delivered tangible benefits to local communities. Approximately 75% of the workforce employed during construction came from the surrounding area. Once operational, the toll road is expected to open up new opportunities in tourism and support the growth of local micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
