Construction of Vietnam’s Dai Ngai 1 Bridge begins

Vietnamese contractor Deoca Group has started work on the Dai Ngai 1 Bridge project and the approach roads at both ends of the bridge (package 15-XL). A ceremony to mark this milestone was held on 9 December 2024.

The Dai Ngai 1 Bridge is being built by a consortium of contractors led by Deoca. It is part of the larger Dai Ngai Bridge project, which is situated on National Highway 60, extending 15 km. It begins at the intersection with National Highway 54 in Hung Hoa commune, Tieu Can district, Tra Vinh province, and ends at the intersection with Nam Song Hau National Highway in Long Duc commune, Long Phu district, Soc Trang province.

This is a group A, special-grade road traffic project, with an investment capital of VND 7,962 billion from the state budget, managed by Vietnam’s Ministry of Transport. The entire development comprises five intersections, seven bridges, and is divided into four packages.

Package 15-XL of the project has a total construction value of VND 3,907 billion, shared Deoca. Scheduled for completion in June 2028, the Dai Ngai 1 Bridge will span over 3 km in total, with the main bridge being 2.59 km long and 21.5 m wide, crossing the Dinh An channel of the Hau River. The main cable-stayed bridge features two A-shaped towers, each 110 m high (from the bridge deck).

Besides Deoca, other contractors in the consortium for package 15-XL include: Trung Nam Construction and Installation JSC, Thai Yen Investment and Construction JSC, Thanh Long Group JSC, Bac Trung Nam Infrastructure Construction JSC, Khang Nguyen Infrastructure Construction Investment JSC, Construction and Investment JSC 492, and Dinh An Group.

When fully completed, the Dai Ngai Bridge is estimated to shorten the travel distance by about 80 km for journeys from Ca Mau, Soc Trang and Bac Lieu to Ho Chi Minh City. According to a local media report, construction of the Dai Ngai 2 Bridge is currently underway.

“To prepare for large bridge projects with complex technical requirements, as well as high-speed railway and urban railway projects, Deoca Group has conducted research trips to countries such as Japan, China, France and Denmark,” said Nguyen Tan Dong, vice chairman of the board of directors at Deoca Group. “We have studied their construction models and solutions, and at the same time, we have partnered with capable domestic contractors and invited leading experts to participate in consulting."
