Eco Expo Asia 2024: Unveiling New Energy Innovations For A Carbon-Zero Future
Views: 382

Hong Kong – Eco Expo Asia 2024 is set to return from 30 October – 2 November at the AsiaWorld-Expo in Hong Kong, promising to be a premier event for sustainability and green technology in the Greater Bay Area. This year’s edition will introduce a brand-new “New Energy and Energy Efficiency” zone, demonstrating the fair’s commitment to advance energy production for a greener future.

At the beginning of the decade, China unveiled its goal to reach peak carbon dioxide emissions before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality before 2060.[1] The country has been making efforts towards this end ever since, with new measures outlined recently including setting quotas for polluting industries, and introducing “carbon label certifications” on products.[2] This is only one piece of the puzzle however, as investments in alternative forms of energy are also crucial to ensure a cleaner and more sustainable world, and in this regard, China has also made great strides. According to a report by the China Electricity Council, by the end of 2024, wind and solar energy are projected to make up over 40 percent of China’s total installed power generation capacity.[3] The country’s involvement in hydrogen is also expected to increase, with output predicted to reach RMB 1 trillion (around USD 139 billion) by 2025.[4]

With the shared goal of a sustainable future, Eco Expo Asia connects Mainland China with the international community. The fair also brings together industry players, academics and government officials from across Asia and the world, fostering collaboration, driving innovation, and facilitating the development of green technologies and sustainable solutions. Running under the theme of “Fostering Green Innovations for Carbon Neutrality”, Eco Expo Asia 2024 will once again gather the leading players from across a wide variety of green industries to help create a more sustainable future. The debut of the “New Energy and Energy Efficiency” zone marks a significant milestone in promoting the proliferation of innovative energy technologies and energy-efficient solutions that shape the energy landscape towards a more sustainable and low-carbon future.

Eco Asia Conference explores a greener future
As one of the highlights of the expo, the Eco Asia Conference this year will feature thought-provoking sessions addressing key topics in sustainability and green technology, with themes including:

  1. Green innovations & technology – Hong Kong’s rise as a global green tech powerhouse: Highlighting the key drivers, innovative projects, and prospects shaping Hong Kong’s sustainability landscape, this theme addresses the adoption of more green technology in the city, the development of green innovation & technology infrastructure and ecosystems making use of artificial intelligence, as well as advancements in building innovation.
  2. Expanding the boundaries of new energy: This theme aims to explore the latest advancements, technologies, and ground-breaking research in the field of new energy, with the goal of pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the pursuit of a greener and more resilient energy future. It includes an overview of the use of new energy in Hong Kong, the cross-industry dynamics of the green energy transition, energy storage systems and smart grid integration, and the use of green energy in buildings.
  3. Achieving a circular economy model in urban development: Focusing on the role of circular economy principles in shaping the future of cities this theme explores innovative strategies, technologies, and approaches that transform urban environments into sustainable and resilient systems. It includes showcasing sustainability best practices, solutions and case studies from leading organisations and experts, applying the concept of circular economy to different sectors, as well as examining how green buildings and infrastructure contribute to the circular economy.
