Dubai Supreme Council of Energy reviews strategy to reduce carbon emissions

Dubai, UAE – HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, headed the 29th meeting of the Supreme Council of Energy at its headquarters, attended by HE Ahmed Butti Al Muhairbi, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Energy. The meeting was also attended by representatives of members companies, Abdullah Kalban , CEO & MD of Emirates Global Aluminium, Abdullah Karim, GM of Dubai Petroleum, Waleed Salman, Chairman of Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence, Salem bin Mesmaar, Assistant Director-General for Supervision of Environment, Health & Safety, at Dubai Municipality, Dr. Yousef Al Ali, Executive Director of Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), as well as representatives from Dubai Supply Authority.

The meeting agenda included the progress of the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030 for the supply and storage infrastructure for natural gas, the current carbon reduction strategy and development of frameworks for carbon dioxide reduction in Dubai by the end of 2014 in line with the UAE Vision 2021.

“We reviewed the strategic plan of the RTA for 2013-2017, which is aligned to the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030, relating to energy conservation and carbon dioxide reduction through several initiatives including mass transit, street lighting efficiency and increased use of the Dubai Metro,” said Al Tayer.
