Finland-based global manufacturer of precast concrete plants and technologies, Elematic Oyj, has appointed Teppo Voutilainen as its new CEO, effective 2 May 2024 at the latest.

\n\n

Mr Voutilainen has a long experience in various strategic leadership positions at Kone Corporation. He started his career at Kone in 2010 and has since held several leadership positions related to product strategy, global new equipment volume elevator business, and most recently he has taken the role of vice president strategy, transformation, and marketing, Europe.

\n\n

Prior to Kone, Mr Voutilainen worked as a management consultant at McKinsey & Company. He has lived extensively in Asia, including China, Singapore, and Japan.

\n\n

“Teppo will bring a strong strategic acumen to driving Elematic to the next level of performance. He has extensive experience working in customer-centric ways to develop offerings and go-to-market strategies,” said Kai-Petteri Purhonen, chair of the board of directors at Elematic. “Teppo also shaped ambitious initiatives to drive pricing and productivity impact across a global scale, through local teams. The passion, energy, and enthusiasm he radiates is something we look forward to embracing with the team at Elematic.”

The new shuttering robot from Elematic is designed to optimise the automated production of double wall elements. The company’s technology can cater for all types of wall production, including solid wall, sandwich wall and filigran concrete elements.

\n\n

And, like those reliable and efficient circulation lines for sandwich wall production, the new Edge Double Wall offers the same high-quality fundamental characteristics, said Toni Koitmaa, product director at Elematic. “The double wall plant includes much of the technology that is also found in our sandwich and solid wall circulation lines, based on years of experience.”

\n\n

With everything from design to assembly, including automation and software produced by the company, customers can now enjoy greater functionality and efficiency of their plants, especially when using Elematic Plant Control, a production operations management software suite that is specially designed for precast concrete factories.

\n\n

Shutter stay or shutter go

\n\n

The new shuttering and deshuttering robot demonstrates the ease and accuracy with which shuttering can be placed on the table, whether it is taken from active or passive storage. Incorporating the latest movement control system for improved controllability and efficiency, the robot is able to rapidly move the shutters, before placing them with pinpoint accuracy, to ensure superbly straight-edged wall panels with sharp 90° corners.

\n\n

When the time comes for deshuttering, the new robot can also perform that task when required, depending on phase time, or, alternatively, a separate deshuttering robot may be used.

\n\n

“The new robot is very precise. Its robust structure and tracks manufactured to strict tolerances guarantee that vibration, swaying and movement deviations are kept to a minimum,” added Mr Koitmaa. “Not only is the robot accurate, it is also fast, durable and economic.

\n\n

“The intelligent automation keeps the movement speeds optimised, saving energy while still placing the shutters as fast as possible. Our customers can be assured of producing a consistent quality of wall panels, along with safer working methods, lower production costs and satisfied customers who appreciate the straight edges.”

\n\n

Improve quality and quantity

\n\n

Elematic’s Plant Control technology highlights how digitalisation is able to streamline factory automation and work processes and deliver major improvements in production efficiency and profitability, resulting in a smooth workflow without unnecessary stops, human errors and material waste.

\n\n

Easily integrated into the IT systems of existing precast factories, this software suite covers both floor and wall production, with Plant Control Wall Quality module being an ideal tool to decrease operational costs and improve quality, of sandwich wall production in particular.

\n\n

Decreasing the time-consuming and manual quality-control tasks common at many factories, Plant Control Wall digitalises the process and recommends the panels for checking – a big time saving on the 100 products each day that may need manual checks at an average facility.

\n\n

Using the automatically stored production history data, the work processes where issues occurred can easily be identified and reviewed, allowing quality improvement actions to be easily taken. Instead of merely collecting data to satisfy legislators and customers, it can now be used to improve the production process too.

\n\n

“You can easily find the five main issues that required correction work one month, improve your process the next and then compare how many similar faults you’ve had before determining the next month’s top five issues,” said Jarkko Salmensivu, director, software business unit at Elematic.

\n\n

“You’re now focusing on reducing quality errors to minimise fixing time. Once you know what the key problems are, it might only take a short time to fix the process – fixing the finished panels will take much longer!”

\n\n

Working alongside other Elematic wall production solutions, the FaME magnet shuttering solution provides yet another example of the company’s emphasis on resource efficiency, with the use of recyclable aluminium side profiles providing a sustainable alternative to the commonly used wood side forms that are thrown away after usage, or heavier steel solutions.

\n\n

Easy to attach and to remove from table surfaces, with no need for welding, bolting or grinding, FaMe magnet shuttering reduces the cost of production, while handling most wall thicknesses, from 70 – 500 mm, with accessories even up to 800 mm.

The N3P portable precast plant, including its innovative butterfly technology, enables Neulandt to improve the productivity of construction projects, standardise quality and ensure the creation of added value on site and in the country.

Elematic is set to unveil its latest double-wall shuttering robot, along with a series of slab saws, automatic transport wagons and services that boost efficiency and safety, while reducing waste.

\n\n

The all-new shuttering robot is designed for solid wall, double wall and filigran concrete element production. The robot is the latest part in Elematic’s whole precast concrete plant automation technology offering.

\n\n

The company, already a leader in hollow core floors and sandwich construction walls, is now expanding its wall offering to include state-of-the-art double wall elements. When coupled with its robot control system and whole-factory Plant Control system, Elematic can deliver optimised automation to achieve the best precast factory layouts and processes for specific customer needs.

\n\n

At the heart of this modernisation is Plant Control, a suite of software that combines precast process optimisation with the latest IT. A central element of the shift to automation, and paperless production processes, the system streamlines operations, workflows and minimises errors.

\n\n

Capacity, material and storage management, transport and production planning, as well as a host of other services, Plant Control makes sense of fluid and complex precast factory’s operations. Placing wall shuttering has never been so easy.

\n\n

Elematic said the robot on display at bauma will demonstrate the ease and accuracy of placing shuttering. Thanks to its use of lightweight shutters, the robot can move faster and place shutters using powerful magnets with far greater accuracy. The robot also incorporates the latest movement control system, improving the controllability and efficiency of the robot.

\n\n

In addition, the Extruder E9 from Elematic is used to cast hollow core floor slabs. It works hand-in-hand with the Modifier E9, a computer-controlled unit for creating openings during the casting process.

\n\n

The Modifier E9 can automatically dig, plot and drill holes in double quick time, with the removed concrete automatically recycled into the Extruder E9 – with zero waste. Not only can this reduce the CO2 emissions of an average factory by an impressive 1,000 annually, it can also offer that same average factory savings of €135,000 a year, according to Elematic.

\n\n

New saw family

\n\n

In addition, bauma will see a new family of floor slab saws unveiled. The multi-purpose Sawpreparer S5 not only cleans the slab before cutting – it can also pull the pre-stressing strands (each one of which can weigh 100 kg) along the slab, reducing the need for manual pulling.

\n\n

Now with a simpler mechanism and reduced height to fit in lower production halls, the easy maintenance Sawpreparer can also cut slabs 100 mm deeper, at 500 mm, and at multiple angles. The blade is now shielded by a telescopic cover – which lowers noise and blocks the progress of flying pieces from cutting.

\n\n

Another new saw is the semi-automatic P7. Like the Sawpreparer, the P7 has a simpler and more reliable mechanism and a telescopic blade cover. It can cut up to 500 mm and has a new blade movement and drive mechanism for easier maintenance. It also has a reduced height and features an updated control system, with intuitive user interfaces and improved cutting control programmes.

\n\n

The bigger saw E9 – which is fully automatic – cuts to a depth of 500 mm as well and shares all of the same upgrades. Both the P7 and E9 saws are available with much improved dust suppression. The classification for the filter is HEPA 13, which means that the dust-filled air of the cutting process is effectively captured, filtered and returned to the factory environment in a very clean condition.

\n\n

Cutting, drilling and forming openings all have the potential to create bottlenecks in the production flow of a precast plant. But drilling-on-the-go is a prospect of Elematic’s all-new Drillbeam E9. Not only can it lift the slabs from the bed onto transport wagons, its three in-built drills can simultaneously and accurately drill the numerous weep holes that are required in hollow core floors. It can drill from below, at the ends and – unusually – in the middle of the slab.

\n\n

What’s more, Elematic will be launching a fully automatic slab transportation system – the Wagon E9-. Its zero-emission battery drive makes pulling cables unnecessary and all that is needed is to load the slab onto a wagon at each end and they will take the slab off to storage – with no need for human intervention. The Wagon E9 is guided by radars that ensure safety, and the trucks can be easily integrated into both new and existing factories.
