TotalEnergies and its partner Nextnorth, a Philippines-based renewable energy developer, have reached financial close and started construction of a 440 MWp solar power plant in Ilagan city, Isabela province. The project is expected to be operational by the end of 2027 and produce 13.5 TWh over 20 years.

\n\n

With a total cost of approximately US$300 million, the project is owned by TotalEnergies (65%) and Nextnorth (35%) and financed by three international banks – Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC), ING Bank NV (ING) and Standard Chartered (SCB). It is considered the largest international financing for a solar project in the Philippines to date.

\n\n

According to Olivier Jouny, SVP renewables at TotalEnergies, this 440 MW project will contribute to the 9 GW renewables portfolio that the company is combining with Masdar through a 50/50 joint venture across nine Asian countries.

\n\n

“Energy security has never been more relevant for the Philippines than it is today. With rising demand and continued exposure to imported fuels, the country needs domestic, scalable and bankable renewable capacity. Working alongside TotalEnergies, we are delivering clean, reliable power that supports communities, creates jobs and advances the Philippines’ transition towards a more energy independent future,” said Miguel Mapa, president and CEO of Nextnorth.

\n\n

TotalEnergies and Nextnorth said more than 50% of the project’s electricity will be sold under long-term offtake agreements with two retail electricity suppliers, AdventEnergy and PrimeRES, supplying commercial and industrial users seeking to decarbonise their operations. The remaining production will be sold to the national grid via its award under Round 4 of the Philippine government’s Green Energy Auction Program.

TotalEnergies and RGE, through their equally-owned joint venture Singa Renewables, have entered into a co-investment agreement to develop, build and operate a solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant with battery energy storage system (BESS) in Riau province, Indonesia. This utility-scale project will be constructed in phases.

\n\n

Upon completion, the project will deliver significant green energy supply for domestic consumption to power green industrial complexes in Riau province, supporting Indonesia’s efforts to drive economic growth and decarbonise key sectors. It will also provide clean solar energy export to Singapore, contributing towards enhancing energy cooperation and renewable energy initiatives across the region.

\n\n

“Our utility-scale project underscores TotalEnergies’ commitment to supporting the region’s energy transition efforts, while ensuring energy security. This project aims to drive the development of regional renewable energy infrastructure and advance the ASEAN Power Grid vision,” said Helle Kristoffersen, president Asia and member of the executive committee at TotalEnergies.

\n\n

“We are taking meaningful steps to advance regional connectivity and contribute to the acceleration of the energy transition in the region. Our co-investment agreement reflects our strong alignment with Indonesia’s National Transformation Strategy (Asta Cita) – supporting green energy self-sufficiency and its bio-based resources industry through high value-added services,” said Imelda Tanoto, managing director at RGE.

\n\n

The project is expected to position Indonesia as a global renewables hub through the creation of skilled jobs in renewables, BESS, engineering and grid integration in Indonesia, in addition to developing the country’s solar and energy storage supply chain capabilities. It also aims to support wider ASEAN ambitions for cross-border clean energy cooperation and energy integration.

PT LiuGong Machinery Indonesia has appointed PT TotalEnergies Marketing Indonesia as its lubricants supplier for the period of 2022-2024. The range of lubricants for LiuGong will include engine, transmission, axle and hydraulic oil, under the trade name of LiuGong Genuine Oil.

\n\n

TotalEnergies has been present in Indonesia for more than 50 years. Its expansion into downstream sector in early 2003 through PT TotalEnergies Marketing Indonesia started with lubricants that were distributed nationwide.

\n\n
