The third edition of Southeast Asia’s flagship geospatial and location intelligence technology trade event, Geo Connect Asia (GCA), successfully concluded its two-day run on 16 March 2023 at the Marina Bay Sands Expo & Convention Centre in Singapore. GCA 2023, co-located with the first edition of Drones Asia and held in conjunction with Digital Construction Asia 2023, hosted in-person 2,494 visitors from 53 countries, wih 24.5% of them coming from outside Singapore.

\n\n

“We were delighted to welcome geospatial and location intelligence industry experts from the region and beyond, assisting in the creation of a regional community for the industry, with a Singapore base. Securing the continued support of our sponsors, partners and exhibitors is testament to the exciting event format we are developing; the addition of Drones Asia for the UAV industry has been very well received,” said Rupert Owen, co-founder of GCA and Drones Asia.

Ms Alameh opened the conference, which comprised 81 prominent speakers, moderators and delegates from across the world.

Visitors also witnessed the official opening of the first Drones Asia, a dedicated drone-technology show jointly launched by Montgomery Asia, the Association of Aerospace Industries (Singapore) (AAIS), and Gold Sponsor Inmarsat. This event was devoted to the region’s growing unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) ecosystem, capturing the commercial demand for airborne, unmanned, and ground-based solutions.

\n\n

This year’s Digital Construction Asia was also an exciting platform for the introduction of cutting-edge solutions for the built environment – including AI, BIM, blockchain, IoT, and visualisation technologies.

\n\n

GCA 2023 was graced by guest of honour Dr Amy Khor, Singapore’s Senior Minister of State for the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment and Ministry of Transport. She delivered the opening address at the event’s opening ceremony.

\n\n

“Achieving sustainable development in an interconnected world requires us to strike a balance between economic growth, social development, and environmental protection. Geospatial technology has proven to be a key enabler in supporting these sustainability goals, and Geo Connect Asia provides us with an excellent platform to explore ideas and solutions,” said Dr Khor.

\n\n

At the opening ceremony, Dr Khor witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Singapore Land Authority (SLA) and the Container Depot and Logistics Association (Singapore) to use geospatial data to route heavy vehicles more efficiently and safely.

\n\n

An intent of collaboration was also signed between SLA and the General Authority for Survey and Geospatial Information of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for both countries to exchange knowledge and experiences regarding the use of geospatial technology. In addition, SLA announced a pilot project with SG Enable and Gardens by the Bay to map barrier-free routes for wheelchair users.

\n\n

“Going forward, we will continue to experiment on using geospatial data sets in novel ways. We will deepen our own geospatial capabilities, broaden our partnerships, and continue to mainstream geospatial in businesses as well as in sustainable development,” said Yeoh Oon Jin, chairman of SLA.

\n\n

GCA 2023 was supported by nearly 60 trade organisations, associations and government agencies, including SLA; SGTech, the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA); Singapore Exhibition and Convention Bureau (SECB); buildingSMART Singapore (bSS); and the Construction Industry Joint Committee (CIJC).

\n\n

With the Main Conference, Tech Talks, Expert Stage and UAV Innovation Theatre @ Drones Asia, key industry professionals and players were provided with a platform to connect and hold pivotal discussions that progress the use of geospatial technology and intelligence to address sustainability limitations.

\n\n

“We received a lot of great leads and we met with a good diversity of customers. We’ve been very busy and positive on getting a good return on investment from our participation,” said Janina Vasquez, geospatial consultant at YJP Surveyors.

Geo Connect Asia (GCA), the region’s leading geospatial industry event, will return next week on 15-16 March at the Marina Bay Sands Expo & Convention Centre in Singapore. It will take place alongside Digital Construction Asia (DCA) 2023 and co-located with the launch of Drones Asia (DA) 2023. The three-in-one event, held fully in person, is expected to bring together over 2,500 delegates and attendees from Singapore, the region and beyond.

\n\n

With the theme ‘Advancing sustainable & resilient geospatial solutions for an interconnected world’, a key focus of GCA 2023 will be the use of advancements in geospatial technology and data interoperability to address regional challenges.

\n\n

Supported by the Singapore Land Authority (SLA), GCA 2023 will feature over 70 exhibiting companies and demonstrate the role played by the mix of geospatial, location intelligence, remote sensing and drone-based solutions.

Digital Construction & Drones Asia

\n\n

Shining the spotlight on opportunities for enhancing productivity in the construction world, Digital Construction Asia (DCA) 2023 will focus on showcasing digitalised processes and improved workflows. By enhancing ground-based equipment with aerial capabilities and implementing technology such as AI, BIM and IoT, current challenges in construction can now be targeted via novel and more efficient approaches.

\n\n

In addressing the commercial unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) industry, the newly launched and co-located Drones Asia (DA) 2023 aims to create a focused platform for the complete drone ecosystem. This show plays a critical role in enabling AI in today’s geospatial marketplace, broadening the conversation as industry experts look into the application of drones and UAVs in the commercial and industrial world, exploring industrial adoption to improve productivity and efficiency.

\n\n

Packed with two days of complimentary programmes, the UAV Innovation Theatre @ Drones Asia offers attendees the chance to learn how technology enables drone operations and discover how UAV-focused solutions are being successfully applied to specific projects and tasks.

\n\n

GCA conference

\n\n

The two-day conference comprises 10 main sessions featuring over 50 industry speakers, panellists and moderators. These include: keynote address, ‘Geospatial solutions for global challenges – a new era empowered by digital twin’ by Prof Abbas Rajabifard, professor and discipline leader, geomatics at the University of Melbourne; opening panel, ‘Driving sustainable solutions in the built environment through improved analytics’ by Esther An, chief sustainability officer, City Developments Limited; and ‘Interoperability of data on the move’ by Eugene Seah, president of buildingSMART Singapore.

\n\n

“As we progress into a Geospatial 4.0 World, data is increasingly intertwined in today’s digital world where technology, sustainability and resilience work hand-in-hand to transform smart insights that enhance productivity and safety,” said Mr Seah, who is also global board member and chief operating officer of Meinhardt Group in Singapore.

“The conferences at GCA 2023 will encourage companies to have these conversations at a local and regional level, and further urge visitors towards building smart cities that are sustainable and resilient as we identify growth opportunities in the construction sector.”

In addition, attendees can deep dive into two Expert Stages (Digital Underground Connect, and Sustainability in Construction and Road) as well as a full programme of free-to-attend Tech Talks and the UAV Innovation Theatre.

GCA 2023 will be graced by Dr Amy Khor, Singapore’s Senior Minister of State for Transport and Senior Minister of State for Sustainability and the Environment, who will deliver the opening speech. Demands on managing its resources will be supported with the co-location of the UNGGIM seminar titled ‘Geo-enabled effective land administration’. The seminar is co-organised by the United Nations Expert Group on Land Administration and Management (UN-EG-LAM) and the UN-GGIM-AP Working Group 2 on Cadastre and Land Management.
