As AI drives unprecedented demand for data centre capacity, the industry faces a growing challenge in aligning rapidly expanding compute infrastructure with available power. To address this, Siemens Smart Infrastructure is expanding its data centre ecosystem through a strategic investment in, and partnership with, Emerald AI, alongside the integration of Fluence battery energy storage solutions and the addition of collaborative physics-based AI modelling with PhysicsX. Together, these capabilities create flexibility across compute, energy and infrastructure systems, helping data centre operators connect to the grid more quickly, scale efficiently and operate reliably in a power-constrained world.

Addressing this requires complex coordination across both the digital and energy domains. Siemens is actively investing in key technologies and partnerships to expand the ecosystem required to scale AI responsibly and support the next generation of data center infrastructure.”

Emerald AI enables AI workloads to shift in time and location to align with grid conditions, allowing data centre demand to respond dynamically to available power. By coordinating when and where AI workloads run, alongside dispatching on-site energy resources, this approach helps smooth peak demand, achieve faster and larger grid connections for data centres, and reduce pressure on constrained power infrastructure. The strategic investment in Emerald AI strengthens Siemens’ ability to introduce flexibility at the compute layer. When combined with Siemens’ expertise in power infrastructure and operational technology, this creates true IT/OT convergence between AI workloads and power systems.

\n\n

A key element of this expanded ecosystem is the addition of Fluence’s grid-scale energy storage solutions, designed to support the next generation of high-performance AI data centres. As compute clusters grow in size and density, Fluence energy storage solutions enable data centres to accelerate grid connection by shaping load and coordinating ramp rates, making large-scale AI demand more predictable and easier for utilities to approve. This can turn power-constrained locations into viable data centre sites and accelerate time to power, enabling the deployment of energy storage in months rather than years of grid upgrades. Fluence’s energy storage solutions can also provide dispatchable, on-site power, helping data centres to operate during grid build-outs, capacity shortfalls or outages. By supporting consistent power quality and flexible scaling, Fluence can help data centre operators bring capacity online more quickly while maintaining the reliability required for mission-critical AI workloads.

\n\n

Strengthening this ecosystem further, Siemens is collaborating with PhysicsX to apply physics-based AI to the design and operation of data centre power distribution systems. Using AI models trained on Siemens’ multi-physics simulation data, engineers can predict thermal behaviour in complex busway systems in real time. With PhysicsX, simulations that once took days can run in under a second, enabling faster design iteration, optimised infrastructure for dynamic AI workloads, and laying the foundation for predictive monitoring across entire facilities.

\n\n

The rapid growth of AI will continue to place new and often highly dynamic demands on power systems, with large training and inference clusters creating rapidly shifting loads that challenge traditional grid planning and data centre design. As a result, operators must find new ways to manage these demands while maintaining the performance and reliability required for AI infrastructure. Siemens’ expanded ecosystem is designed to help address this challenge by bringing together AI workload orchestration, grid-integrated energy systems and AI-optimised physical infrastructure to support the next generation of AI infrastructure.

A facility known worldwide as a centre of excellence for the surgical profession is being protected with a Cerberus Pro fire safety system, backed by a service and maintenance contract from Sensetech Systems.

\n\n

The Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCS England) is located in central London and provides world-class education, assessment and development to 30,000 surgeons, dental professionals and members of the wider surgical and dental care team.

\n\n

With a history dating back to 1800 when RCS England was granted a Royal Charter and new buildings were constructed in Lincoln’s Inn Fields, the College provides not only an invaluable resource for current practitioners but also a repository for an extensive surgical library, archive collections and the Hunterian Museum. Reopened in May 2023 following a five-year £4.6 million redevelopment programme, the Hunterian Museum represents the art and science of surgery from ancient times to the present day and includes the awe-inspiring specimen collection of renowned 18th-century surgeon anatomist John Hunter.

\n\n

Protecting such a historically important building and its contents from the threat of fire is obviously a vital consideration and this is achieved through a Siemens Cerberus Pro fire system. The system is a four-panel network comprising three FC724 and one FC722 panels from the Cerberus Pro range. Detectors from the Siemens C-Pro suite of field detection and devices are linked to the panels to protect the Museum gallery, library, atrium, function rooms, offices, kitchens, stores, risers, plant rooms, floor and ceiling voids, communication rooms and lift shafts.

\n\n

Complex cause and effects and monitoring includes damper controls, sprinkler control, door holds, AOV (automatic opening vents), BMS (Building Management Systems) vents, lift control (primary & secondary), access control, plant, ATS (alarm transmission system) and evacuation control.

\n\n

John O’Riordan is Head of Building and Estates at the RCS England and has been there for 25 years. It was really important to me to find the best in class contractor to maintain the Siemens Cerberus system protecting our staff and heritage – we engaged with Mathew Wylde Senior Account Manager at Sensetech Systems and were immediately impressed with their understanding of our needs and the service improvements they could deliver.“

Alan Walters is head of Estimating & Service at Sensetech Systems. Commenting on the project, he said “the site is very impressive, a real mix of old and new, with the original buildings from the 19th Century supplemented by modern additions. As a business, Sensetech Systems has been working with Siemens for more than 10 years, so we are familiar with their systems. We are providing training for John O’Riordan and his team at RCS England on making the most of remote connectivity available through the portal which connects the system to the cloud. This offers significant benefits, including the potential to conduct many maintenance and servicing checks remotely, thereby reducing the disruption associated with site visits.”

Siemens Smart Infrastructure has signed an agreement to acquire digital twin software for buildings from EcoDomus, a US-based company. The move helps Siemens Smart Infrastructure expand its digital building portfolio, including its cloud-based building operations twin software and its flagship building management platform Desigo CC.

\n\n

The EcoDomus software creates, maintains and visualises Building Information Modeling (BIM)-based digital building twins, making design and construction data available for building operations and maintenance. Customers can generate digital replicas of their real buildings and assets, creating a common data environment that integrates BIM, Building Management Systems, Computerised Maintenance Management Systems and Internet of Things systems. The solution enables BIM-driven workflows and digital twin-based lifecycle management, complemented by 3D visualisation.

\n\n

“The way we operate buildings is fundamentally changing, thanks to the power of digitalisation and digital twins,” said Henning Sandfort, CEO of Building Products at Siemens Smart Infrastructure. “By enhancing our existing offering for digitalised buildings with EcoDomus’ software, we are strengthening our leading industry position in that dynamic market, offering our customers the full-spectrum benefits of BIM-based operations.”

In the past, BIM data usage mostly focused on a building’s construction phase. Today, its benefits can also be leveraged in the operations and maintenance phase. This is crucial as this is where 80% of a building’s total lifecycle costs will occur.

\n\n

Leveraging the acquired data creation and visualisation capabilities, Siemens’ digital building software portfolio will bring benefits to customers including enhanced insights into the performance of their building, real-time issue identification and resolution, and better space and energy utilisation. Customers will be able to turn their buildings into more sustainable, comfortable, and safe places to live and work, while at the same time streamlining processes and reducing operational costs.
