Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded two civil contracts totalling S$1.16 billion to construct the tunnel and commuter facilities, including pedestrian overhead bridges, bus stops, sheltered walkways and cycling paths for two sections of the North-South Corridor (NSC) project. These sections are between Toa Payoh Rise and Marymount Lane as well as between Kampong Java Road and Suffolk Walk. Works on both contracts are expected to begin by end-2018.

The 21.5 km NSC is Singapore’s first integrated transport corridor, featuring continuous bus lanes and at-grade cycling trunk routes, to serve public bus commuters, cyclists and pedestrians, in line with our car-lite vision. The NSC is expected to be completed in 2026.

The construction of a section of the NSC tunnel between Toa Payoh Rise and Marymount Lane has been awarded to Samsung C&T Corporation at a contract sum of S$602.6 million. The company will design and construct a 1.37 km section of the tunnel with one exit ramp.

Samsung C&T Corporation was recently awarded the first NSC civil contract for the NSC tunnel between Novena Rise and Toa Payoh Rise, and is also currently involved in the construction of Xilin Station and tunnels, which are part of the Downtown Line Extension, as well as the Caldecott and Marine Parade Stations, which are part of the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL).

In addition, the construction of a section of the NSC tunnel between Kampong Java Road and Suffolk Walk has been awarded to Leighton Contractors (Asia) Limited (Singapore Branch) and Yongnam Engineering & Construction (Private) Limited Joint Venture (Leighton-Yongnam JV) at a contract sum of S$553.8 million.

Leighton-Yongnam JV will design and construct a 0.64 km section of tunnel with an entry ramp and an exit ramp between Kampong Java Road and Suffolk Walk. The contract also includes the provision of commuter facilities and the widening of Rochor Canal.
